Hugh Freeze Returns to Coaching at Liberty

Former Ole Miss Coach Back on the Sidelines

Freeze Led Rebels to Back-to-Back Bowl Games

Liberty University has announced the hiring of Hugh Freeze as its new head football coach. Freeze, who spent five seasons at Ole Miss from 2012-2016, is returning to coaching after a two-year hiatus.

Freeze had a successful tenure at Ole Miss, leading the Rebels to a 66-32 overall record. He also guided the team to back-to-back nine-win regular seasons for the first time since 1962. Before Ole Miss, Freeze spent three seasons as the head coach at Lambuth University, where he compiled a 20-13 record.

Freeze's hiring is a major coup for Liberty, which is looking to build on its recent success under former coach Turner Gill. Gill led the Flames to a 38-27 record in five seasons, including a 9-5 mark in 2019.

Freeze is excited to be back on the sidelines and is looking forward to the challenge of rebuilding the Liberty football program. He said in a statement, "I am honored and humbled to be the head football coach at Liberty University. I believe in this university, its mission, and its vision. I am excited to get to work and help lead this football program to new heights."
