Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine on the current frontlines, according to a statement released by the Kremlin.

Putin's announcement comes as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk to discuss security and ongoing tactical nuclear weapons drills. The drills, which began on May 23, are part of a larger military exercise involving Russian and Belarusian forces.

Putin has also called on Ukraine to cease fire and negotiate an end to the conflict. "We are ready to suspend our military operation at any moment," said Putin. "But only if Ukraine agrees to meet our conditions, including the recognition of Crimea as Russian territory and the neutrality of Ukraine."

Ukraine has rejected Putin's demands, saying it will not negotiate with Russia until it withdraws all its forces from the country. The United States and other Western countries have also condemned Putin's latest move, calling it a "provocation" and a "threat to European security."

In other news, Russian authorities have arrested another general on bribery charges. Lieutenant-General Vadim Shamarin is the latest in a string of high-ranking military officials to be arrested on corruption charges.

Protests continue to take place across Russia over President Putin's partial mobilization policy. The policy, which was announced on September 21, has sparked widespread anger and resentment among the Russian public.
